About “The Special Bus”: It is a 1954 Chevy c4500 Wayne bodied short bus, which I found on EBay located in Illinois. The plan is to make the bus into a rolling display of what we can do and what we sell. It definitely attracts attention. We are going to leave the bus in the original patina and the original lettering is still visible. It has “Elgin Special School District Rt #1” on the sides. It really is a “special” bus. We have made some good progress on this project already. The front suspension has been upgraded to a later model gm 1-ton truck with disc brakes and power steering. The rear of the bus has had the last 10 ft of frame remade out .250 steel plating for strength. The Dana 70 out of the same truck was narrowed 2” per side and hung with a custom 4-link kit. The bus rides on Air Ride technologies Air bags and Shocks. It can air down for the cool look and also easier boarding. For power and reliability we swapped in a 12-valve Cummins diesel engine. It has been hot rodded with a Hamilton Cam and valve train, Arp studs and hardware, Cometic Gaskets and a set of Compound Turbos for power and looks at the shows. It is backed by a NV4500 manual 5-speed transmission for nostalgic reasons. The interior is the original mint green. We have upgraded the dash with Dakota Vhx Gauges and Vintage Air.
Come see the bus for yourself at Rods and Roses July 2nd!
